Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Model of 1938 is not a specific rifle model but rather a general term used to describe a group of Turkish military rifles sharing a common set of features. This designation was not used by the Turkish military itself; it was a label coined by U.S. importers to categorize these rifles. The assumption is that the Turkish military took a variety of surplus rifles and modified them to a consistent design, which became known as the Model 1938. Among the rifles commonly referred to as "Model 1938," the most frequent are K.Kale-marked rifles and Gew.98 conversions. In some cases, importers even stamped converted rifles, such as the Turkish 1893 and Turkish 1903, with "Model 1938" on the barrel.

The most common markings found on M1938 receivers include T.C., ASFA, and Ankara, which refer to the Republic of Turkey, the Ankara Military Rifle Factory (Ankara Tüfek Fabrikasi), and other associated Turkish arms manufacturing plants. While these markings could appear on any rifle refurbished or produced in Turkey, the K.Kale marking specifically indicates that the rifle was manufactured at the Kirikkale Arms Factory.
