This Walther Die Schaftausführung (“WSF”) 12-gauge side-by-side shotgun is an exceptionally scarce WWII-era sporting arm, manufactured in May 1940—likely among the very last of its kind before Walther ceased sporting arms production to focus on military contracts. Already rare due to low overall production numbers (probably fewer than 3,000 total), its 12-gauge chambering makes it even more uncommon, as most Walthers of this type were built in 16-gauge. The WSF series, produced alongside the WSFD variant from roughly 1932 to 1940, features Purdey-style dual underlugs, the Anson-Deeley boxlock mechanism, and the Greener cross-bolt locking system. This example, equipped with extractors, has 28½-inch Krupp-Laufstahl fluid steel barrels, 2 9/16-inch chambers, and retains much of its original blued finish, with bright bores and only minor frosting. The engraved receiver, depicting a duck on both sides, shows traces of original blue over a pewter patina, while the action, safety, and lever remain mechanically crisp and fully functional.
