In February 1941 Mauser changed from the 42 code to byf, with two-digit ''41" dates are representative of the Luger contract production accepted by the German military in 1941. The P08 Luger is a toggle-locked recoil-operated semi-automatic pistol that was produced in several models and by several nations from 1898 to 1948. Captured Lugers were much prized by Allied soldiers during both of the world wars as war trophies and many were sent home to the United States.
