Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Astra 300, a semi-automatic pistol, was produced by Astra Unceta in Spain from 1922 to 1967. It was first developed by Astra Unceta in 1922 and became available in Spain in 1923. Initially, the Spanish prison administration used the weapon during the 1920s. Later, in 1928, the Spanish Navy began using the pistol. In the 1930s, the Astra 300 became a primary weapon for the army, and in 1937-1938, a small number of Astra 300 pistols were purchased by the USSR from the Spanish Republic. These richly decorated pistols were used as awards, with the People's Commissariat of Defense of the Soviet Union Kliment Voroshilov handing out the luxury model to Soviet pilots, including Vasily Stalin, Timur Frunze, and Sergey Mikoyan. Larger weapons, such as the 7.63-mm Astra pistols of models 901-903, were given to military leaders or the highest commanding staff of the NKVD.
During World War II, the German Wehrmacht stationed in France was the primary recipient of the Astra 300, with roughly 85,000 copies delivered from neutral Spain to Berlin between October 1941 and July 1944. Throughout its production period from 1922 to 1947, a total of 171,300 Astra 300 pistols were manufactured. It was largely replaced in 1948 by its successor, the Astra 3000, although production of the Astra 300 continued on a small scale until 1967.
