Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Marlin Firearms Co. Model 36-RC “Regular Carbine” 3rd Variation is a rare and collectible lever-action rifle that was produced during a brief window from 1946 to 1947, representing the final evolution of the Model 36 series before the launch of the Model 336. Chambered in either .30-30 Winchester or .32 Winchester Special, it was built for durability, accuracy, and field performance. This variation is most notably distinguished by the absence of upper tang markings—a departure from the 1st and 2nd variations, which had the model and manufacturer information stamped on the tang. Instead, the model number and caliber appear on the left side of the barrel. Both the “RC” (Regular Carbine) and “SC” (Sporting Carbine) models featured a pistol grip walnut stock, enhancing control and comfort over earlier straight-grip configurations. The Regular Carbine variant came equipped with a 20-inch barrel, a full-length magazine tube, and a single barrel band securing the slim forearm. In contrast, the Sporting Carbine version featured a shorter magazine tube and notably lacked a barrel band, instead using a forearm cap for a cleaner, more streamlined appearance.

All rifles in this variation carried model suffixes—“A” for standard rifles, “RC” for Regular Carbines, and “SC” for Sporting Carbines. Serial number prefixes also help date production: 1946 rifles began with a lowercase “c,” while 1947 models used an uppercase “D”. With their limited production run, transitional design features, and historical significance, these rifles are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts of classic American lever-action firearms.
