Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Remington Model 521-T Junior Special, introduced in 1947, was designed as an affordable yet highly capable training and target rifle for young shooters and developing marksmen. This first-year production example reflects the early qualities that made the model one of Remington’s most respected mid-century .22 bolt-actions. Chambered for .22 Short, Long, or Long Rifle, it employs a simple and reliable bolt-action system paired with a 25-inch barrel that delivers excellent accuracy for both recreational shooting and small-bore competition. While many 521-T rifles were equipped with Lyman target sights, this example features a blade front and adjustable rear sight, maintaining a clean, traditional rimfire sight picture. Its blued finish and smooth walnut stock represent the solid, no-nonsense construction typical of postwar Remington sporting arms.

The 521-T’s design incorporates features aimed at precision and usability, including a detachable 6-shot magazine, a takedown system for easier maintenance and transport, and a well-proportioned stock that lends itself to steady offhand and benchrest shooting. These attributes contributed to the model’s popularity throughout its 21-year production run, during which approximately 67,000 were manufactured. Early-production rifles such as this 1947 example are especially valued by collectors for their connection to the model’s introduction and for retaining the classic styling of Remington’s late-1940s rimfire line. Overall, the 521-T Junior Special remains a standout among vintage American .22 target rifles—respected for its accuracy, durability, and role in teaching generations of shooters.
