The Super 38 is the much more Rare sister to such classics as the Government, Gold Cup National Match, Combat Commander, and Delta Elite models.

The Colt Super .38 Automatic Pistol, introduced in 1928, was developed as a high-velocity alternative to the standard .45 ACP Government Model. Mechanically identical to the M1911, the Super .38 featured the same single-action, recoil-operated design, with a 5-inch barrel, thumb safety, grip safety, and 9-round magazine capacity. What set it apart was its chambering in the .38 Super cartridge—a round capable of reaching velocities upwards of 1,200 feet per second, making it one of the most powerful semi-automatic handguns of its time. This increased power, coupled with excellent penetration, made the Super .38 highly appealing to law enforcement and criminal investigators during the 1930s, especially for penetrating automobile bodies and body armor in the gangster era. Offered in blue or nickel finishes, its overall aesthetic mirrored the elegance of the classic Colt Government Model while delivering an elevated level of performance.
