The Winchester Model 75 was a bolt-action .22 LR rifle produced by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company from 1938 to 1958, with approximately 88,715 units manufactured. Developed as a more affordable alternative to the high-end Model 52, it was marketed as a precision rifle suitable for school rifle teams, target shooting, and recreational use. The rifle featured a five- or ten-round detachable box magazine and was available in Target and Sporter configurations. The Target model, in particular, was highly regarded for its precision, featuring a 28-inch tapered heavy barrel, adjustable Redfield or other precision sights, and a heavy target stock designed for stability and accuracy. Its well-fitted bolt and precision chamber contributed to its reputation as a reliable and accurate rifle, making it a popular choice for competitive and recreational shooters alike. The Sporter variant had a shorter barrel and lighter stock for general use. Approximately 16,000 Model 75 rifles were purchased and used by the U.S. military during World War II for training purposes.
