Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
When discussing classic full-length tubular magazine lever guns, the Winchester Model 94 with its top ejection and the Marlin 336 with side ejection often come to mind, particularly in relation to the ".30-30 carbine." However, Marlin's Model 336 platform offers greater versatility—it isn't limited solely to the .30-30 caliber or the typical carbine setup with a full-length magazine.

Introduced in 1948 as a successor to the Model 36, Marlin's Model 336 has seen a variety of grades and variants over the years. Initially, Marlin offered three primary versions: the Model 336A, which featured a 24? barrel; the Model 336RC, a carbine with a 20? barrel and a full-length magazine tube; and the Model 336SC, also with a 20? barrel but a shorter (half) magazine tube.
Production of the Model 336A lasted from 1948 to 1962, with a later reintroduction from 1973 to 1980. One distinctive feature of this model is its "waffle top" receiver, a characteristic that adorned Marlins from its inception until 1952. This textured pattern on the receiver's top was designed to minimize glare and enhance visibility when using the original open sights, making it highly valued among collectors and enthusiasts alike.
