Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Winchester Model 1897, also known as the Model 97, M97, or Trench Gun, is a pump-action shotgun with an external hammer and tube magazine. It was manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company and designed by John Browning, evolving from the Model 1893. Over one million of these shotguns were produced from 1897 until 1957. The Model 1897 was available in different barrel lengths and grades, with 12 and 16-gauge options, and as a solid frame or takedown. The 16-gauge guns had a standard 28-inch barrel, while 12-gauge guns had a 30-inch barrel, but special length barrels could be ordered ranging from 20 to 36 inches. The Model 1897 has been used by American soldiers, police officers, and hunters since its production.
According to the owner, this example has two serial numbers that do not match. It is possible that this occurred because the guns were shipped out in batches for either training or combat purposes. If there were any issues with a few of them, the entire batch was sent back to the ordnance for disassembly, repair, and reassembly. During this process, the stocks, barrels, and actions were all placed in a large container and the reassembly team did not prioritize matching serial numbers.
Return Policy:
We gladly offer a 3 day unfired inspection policy from the time that the firearm is delivered to your FFL. Refunds are available for all qualifying orders.
