Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Remington 870 Wingmaster, introduced in 1950, quickly earned a reputation for rugged durability, smooth operation, and reliable performance. Built on a solid steel receiver with dual action bars, it was initially offered in 12, 16, and 20 gauge, with 28 gauge and .410 models introduced later on with scaled-down receivers. Designed primarily for hunting and sport shooting, the Wingmaster was offered in a variety of barrel styles, including vent-rib sporting barrels, plain hunting barrels, and rifled slug barrels, often paired with quality walnut stocks. Its combination of strong construction, dependable pump action, and timeless design made it a favorite among hunters, trap and skeet shooters, and collectors alike. Decades after its introduction, the 870 Wingmaster continues to be celebrated for its long-term reliability and remains a cornerstone of the Remington pump shotgun line.
