Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Tokarev is a reliable handgun designed originally by Soviet Russia in the early 1930s. It was designed by Fedor Tokarev and was the premier service pistol for the Soviets in World War II. Shortly after the war, the Cold War began, and the Eastern Bloc was formed of members of the Warsaw Pact. Poland was one of those nations, and because of this, they were given information on Soviet technology, which allowed them to produce their very own TT-33 pistols. These pistols were created under the same specifications that the Russians used, and so the pistol is very uniform in terms of design and performance. The TT-33 is very similar to the FN Model 1903, designed by John Browning. It is a blowback pistol utilizing a short-recoil tilting barrel system, like an M.1911 pistol! The TT-33 is a lot more robust, however, as it has a much simpler hammer/sear assembly and does not utilize an “in-grip” safety like a 1911.
The TTC (Tulskiye Tokarev Cugir) was a firearm manufactured at the Cugir Arsenal in Romania and was in regular service until the Romanian revolution of 1989. This pistol is practically identical to the Polish version, with the main difference being the narrow rear slide grip serrations, unlike the spaced oval serrations found on the Polish copy of the original Russian TT-33. Mechanically and functionally, the Cugir Tokarev is the same as the Russian and Polish-made TT-33. However, it has distinctive "RSR" (Romanian Socialist Republic) grip panels and simplified rear slide serrations. When imported to the US, frame-mounted trigger safety was added to the firearm.
