Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The International Harvester Model M1 Garand chambered in .30-06 Springfield is a historically significant and highly collectible version of America’s legendary battle rifle. Produced between 1953 and 1956 during the height of the Cold War and Korean War periods, this semi-automatic rifle reflects a unique chapter in U.S. military manufacturing history. With a durable parkerized finish and a 24-inch barrel, the rifle retains the battle-proven specifications that made the Garand a reliable workhorse in both World War II and Korea. Its iron sights—consisting of a wing-protected blade front and an adjustable aperture rear—offer excellent precision for the era and remain effective even by modern standards. This example is stocked in smooth hardwood, true to the classic military configuration, and features a “CMP” (Civilian Marksmanship Program) stamp on the left side of the stock, indicating it was inspected and sold through the government-sponsored program aimed at promoting marksmanship and preserving surplus military arms.

What sets this rifle apart is its International Harvester receiver, one of the rarest among the four main M1 Garand manufacturers. IHC, traditionally known for farming equipment, was contracted by the U.S. government to ease production demands on Springfield Armory and Harrington & Richardson. Due to a variety of logistical challenges and reliance on subcontractors—most notably Line Material Corporation (LMR), whose barrels are highly respected—IHC only produced around 337,000 rifles, a small fraction compared to other manufacturers. As a result, IHC Garands are highly sought after by collectors for their relative scarcity and production anomalies, such as distinct receiver markings like the “Postage Stamp” logo or “Gap Letter” fonts. Though functionally identical to other M1s, the IHC variant embodies a blend of industrial innovation and historical context, making it a standout piece in any military firearms collection.
