Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
When people think of a traditional lever-action rifle, they often picture the Winchester Model 94 or Marlin 336, with the former being a top-ejecting classic and the latter a side-ejecting staple, both typically chambered in .30-30. However, Marlin's 336 platform offers more diversity than just the iconic .30-30 carbine. This particular rifle is a 1955 Model 336A, chambered in .35 Remington, and features a 24-inch barrel with a two-thirds-length magazine, deviating from the typical full-length magazine seen on many lever guns. Introduced in 1948 as an update to the legendary Model 1893, the Marlin 336 has been offered in various configurations and calibers, with names like Marauder, Texan, and Trapper reflecting differences in barrel lengths, magazine configurations, and grip styles. Over its production run, the 336 platform also offered a variety of calibers, some of which, such as the .219 Zipper and .307 Winchester, have since been discontinued. According to the Blue Book of Gun Values, the 336A was produced from 1948 to 1962 and again from 1973 to 1980.
