Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Astra Model 2000 “Cub” is a Spanish-made, ultra-compact, single-action, blowback-operated semi-automatic pistol first produced by Astra-Unceta y Cía in 1954 and offered primarily in .22 Short and .25 ACP. Featuring a 2.25-inch barrel, an exposed hammer, a six- or seven-round magazine, a magazine-disconnect safety, and a thumb safety, the Cub was designed as a true “vest pocket pistol,” weighing just around 13 ounces and measuring about 4.4 inches long. Despite its tiny size, it was praised for its surprising accuracy, smooth handling, and practical ergonomics, making it a popular choice for discreet carry, self-defense, and as a backup gun. Colt imported the Cub to the U.S. market as the Colt Junior from 1957 to 1968, which is mechanically identical aside from markings. Over the years, the Astra Cub has earned a lasting reputation as a charming, reliable, and deceptively capable little firearm, beloved by collectors and enthusiasts alike for its perfect blend of portability, precision, and classic mid-century design.
