According to the included official signed letter from Don Findley, Author of the book The Whitney Pistol:
To whom it may concern, I received the nickel-plated Whitney .22 pistol from Robert L. Hillberg as a gift several years ago. It was never serial numbered. It is a prototype for the rare plated line of Whitney pistols. It had been in Mr.Hillberg's personal collection since it was manufactured in 1957 at the original Whitney Firearms, Inc. Factory. Hillberg was the designer of the Whitney .22 Pistol.
SIMPLY STATED, THIS EXAMPLE IS THE HOLY GRAIL OF THE WHITNEY WOLVERINE!

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Wolverine was engineered by Robert Hillberg, who learned about aluminum casting during WWII while working with aircraft guns and later became research engineer for High Standard Manufacturing Company. Only 13,371 of these .22 semi automatic pistols were made in a period of production between 1955 and 1962. There were approximately 500 nickel-plated according to company records, the rest finished in varying shades of anodized blue. The plastic grips came in either a black, dark brown or white; the white grips are found mostly on the nickel-plated models. Investment casting of the frame by Alcoa was a new idea for the gun industry at the time; now it is widely used by almost every major gun manufacturer.
