The Colt Woodsman is a semi-automatic sporting pistol produced by Colt's Manufacturing Company between 1915 and 1977. Designed by John Moses Browning, the frame underwent changes across three distinct series: series one from 1915 to 1942, series two from 1947 to 1955, and series three from 1955 to 1977. In 1950, Colt introduced the Challenger as a more affordable version of the Woodsman, maintaining a similar action but incorporating cost-saving features. The Challenger was discontinued in 1955, giving way to the Huntsman, which served as the "economy" variant of the Woodsman. The Targetsman is a version of the Huntsman, featuring an adjustable rear sight and a 6-inch barrel.
