Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Model 15 is a double-/single-action revolver chambered in .38 Special, built on the square-butt K-frame target platform and continuing the lineage of the postwar K-38 Combat Masterpiece. It features a six-shot fluted cylinder with a nominal length of 1.56 inches, originally paired with a 4-inch pinned barrel. Shorter 2-inch pinned barrels were later offered, while 5-inch examples are rare. In 1986, the lineup expanded to include 6- and 8 3/8-inch barrels, all fitted with a narrow serrated rib. Finishes were offered in blued or nickel, and sights consisted of a 1/8-inch Baughman Quick Draw front sight on a plain ramp, paired with a micrometer-click adjustable rear sight. Grips were typically walnut Magna-style with S&W medallions and the early diamond escutcheon; however, some early postwar examples had plastic medallions. Trigger and hammer configurations varied by barrel length. The 2- and 4-inch models came standard with a .312-inch smooth combat trigger, often with an optional adjustable stop. The 4-inch guns could also carry a .400-inch target trigger, while the 6- and 8 3/8-inch barrels typically featured a .265-inch serrated service trigger.
