Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Single Action Army (also known as the SAA, Model P, Peacemaker, or M1873) is a single-action revolver handgun. It was designed for the U.S. government service revolver trials of 1872 by Colt's Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company (today known as Colt's Manufacturing Company). The Colt SAA has been offered in over 30 different calibers and various barrel lengths. Its overall appearance has remained consistent since 1873. Colt has canceled its production twice but brought it back due to popular demand. The revolver was dubbed the "Peacemaker" and is a famous piece of Americana and the American Wild West era due to its popularity with ranchers, lawmen, and outlaws alike. Today, they are mainly bought as memorabilia by collectors and re-enactors. Its design has influenced the production of numerous other models from other companies. The SAA, at one time or another, was offered in dozens of calibers from .22 rimfire to .476 Eley, though the .45 Colt has always been the most common. A scaled-down .22 rimfire version called the Scout or Frontier Scout was available in the late 20th century.
The Frontier Scouts with Q serial numbers were manufactured in 1957 and 1958. These guns had aluminum alloy frames, grip frames, and loading gates, and featured blue cylinders and barrels. The frames, grip frames, and loading gates were not finished, leaving them in their natural state. They were chambered for the .22 LR cartridge and had a barrel length of 4 3/4 inches. On the other hand, the K serial numbered Scouts were introduced in 1960 and were produced until about 1970. Different from the Q models, the K Scouts had zinc alloy frames, grip frames, and loading gates, which were much heavier than the aluminum ones.
The K guns were bright nickel-plated and available in .22 LR, .22 Magnum, and .22 CAL. They had 4 3/4-inch (Frontier Scout) or 9 1/2-inch (Buntline Scout) barrels and were often sold as "sets" of guns. Colt Single Action Frontier Scouts shipped in 1961 for the 125th anniversary came with a 125th Anniversary medallion on the chain.
