Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Golden Mountie Model 39A is a noteworthy variation of the Marlin 39A, introduced in 1954 as a compact version with a 20-inch barrel and a straight stock. Designed for those who preferred a shorter, more maneuverable rifle, the Golden Mountie became a beloved model among hunters, plinkers, and collectors. With its lighter and more manageable frame, the Mountie variant maintained the same high level of performance and accuracy that the Marlin 39A was known for while offering enhanced portability for field use. It features a magazine capacity of 20 .22 Short, 16 .22 Long, or 15 .22 Long Rifle rounds, making it ideal for extended shooting sessions without frequent reloading. This version, along with the original 39A, is regarded as one of the finest lever-action .22 rifles ever produced, with its accuracy and craftsmanship ensuring its place as one of the best-selling lever-action rimfire rifles in U.S. history.

The introduction of the Golden Model 39A, including the Golden Mountie version, brought significant improvements to the already established Marlin 39 series, such as the use of proprietary Micro-Groove rifling, which enhanced the rifle's accuracy and helped it maintain a reputation for precision shooting. Additionally, the solid-top receiver and side ejection made it easier to mount scopes, further increasing its versatility. The Golden 39A was built using high-quality forged steel and American black walnut, showcasing Marlin's commitment to craftsmanship. Despite its popularity, the Golden Model 39A, including the Mountie, was discontinued after 2020 when the Marlin factory was sold to Ruger. However, the legacy of these rifles lives on through the availability of used models and their continued reverence by collectors and enthusiasts who value the Marlin 39A as the oldest continuously produced shoulder firearm in the world.
