At the onset of World War II, Colt halted production of the iconic Single Action Army revolver to prioritize fulfilling military orders. After the war, the company did not plan to resume production of the revolver, as its design was considered outdated. However, the rise of television and the popularity of Western-themed films sparked renewed customer interest in this classic firearm. In response, Colt relaunched the Single Action Army revolver in 1956 with the introduction of the Second-Generation line. These Second-Generation Colt Single Action Army revolvers were manufactured from 1956 to 1974 and featured serial numbers ranging from 0001SA to 73,205SA.

In the years that followed, Colt continued to evolve its lineup with the Peacemaker .22 and later introduced the "New Frontier Scout," ensuring that families could still enjoy a piece of the cowboy dream without breaking the bank.
