Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Llama's time-proven design, enhanced by individual hand-fitting and hand-honing of all moving parts, has resulted in handguns that provide smooth operation, pin-point accuracy, and rugged reliability under the toughest conditions.
The company name is often mispronounced as Lah-mah, though the proper pronunciation is Yah-mah, which means “fire” in Spanish. Various “Spanish Ruby” pistols, purchased by the French army during the first World War at a rate of up to 30,000 per month, gave the company its beginning. The pistol was modest, but the total number produced was impressive. When the company was prosperous, its main source of prosperity was a line of pistols resembling the Colt 1911A1.
The small-frame Llama models, available in .22 LR, 32 Auto and .380 Auto, are impressively compact handguns. All frames are precision machined of high strength steel, yet weigh a featherlight 23 ounces. A full complement of safeties; side lever, half-cock, and grip is incorporated. Every small-frame Llama is complete with ventilated rib, wide-spur serrated target type hammer and adjustable rear sight.
The Llama XVI was manufactured between 1954-1997. It is a self-loading pistol, blowback operation, miniature copy of Colt 1911 in .22 LR with grip safety and identical to the Llama XV except for luxury finish (including gold plating) and various engraving options.
