Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
In the early 1950s, Colt began modernizing its revolver lineup, responding to evolving consumer preferences for double-action revolvers equipped with adjustable sights. Colt introduced two new models to address this demand: the 357 Model and the Trooper. The Trooper was aimed at law enforcement and budget-conscious civilians seeking an affordable revolver with adjustable sights, while the 357 Model catered to those desiring the .357 Magnum cartridge or a higher-grade revolver. Essentially, the Trooper was a reconfigured version of the Colt Officer's Model Match, featuring a ramped front sight on a large ramp base and built on the standard medium "E" frame, which had been in production since 1908 with minimal modifications. The primary alteration involved reinforcing the top strap to accommodate an adjustable rear sight. Introduced in 1953, the Trooper quickly gained popularity among both law enforcement and civilian users.

Additionally, Colt offered a .22LR variant as a training tool alongside the .38 Special model. Despite strong sales of the Trooper, introducing the premium Python in 1955 diverted interest away from the 357 Model, leading to its decline. In 1961, Colt streamlined its offerings by discontinuing the 357 Model and integrating its features into the Trooper, which was then available in both the .38 Special and .357 Magnum. This transition involved replacing the "E" frame with the newer "I" frame, which featured a frame-mounted firing pin. The .22LR version remained on the "E" frame and was produced until 1961, though it continued to be listed in Colt’s catalog until 1969. The Trooper was available in various calibers and barrel lengths, with finishes ranging from the original Duo-Tone blued finish to a full polish blue. Customers could also choose from different options for hammers and grips. The Trooper's production continued until 1969, when Colt ceased manufacturing all "E" and "I" frame revolvers except for the Python.
