Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Remington Arms Model 600 was a bolt-action rifle featuring a push-feed mechanism, manufactured by Remington between 1964 and 1968. While it is often believed that production ended in 1967, historical records from Remington representatives clarify that production actually continued into 1968. The Model 600 was an important part of Remington’s evolution of hunting rifles, serving as the precursor to several notable models, including the Model 660 (produced from 1968 to 1971), the Model 600 Mohawk (manufactured from 1971 to 1979), and the Model 673 (produced for a brief run from 2003 to 2004). Specifically designed as a guide rifle, the Model 600 featured a compact, rugged design that made it ideal for hunting in dense terrain. One of its most distinctive attributes was its vent rib barrel, which contributed to improved accuracy and reduced barrel heat during extended use, making it an excellent choice for field conditions.

The rifle was known for its light weight and short barrel length, which allowed for easy maneuverability in tight spaces. A total of 94,086 Model 600 rifles were produced during its production run, and it was offered in a diverse range of calibers to suit various hunting needs. These included popular hunting calibers such as .222 Remington, .223 Remington, 6mm Remington, .243 Winchester, .308 Winchester, .35 Remington, as well as 6.5mm Remington Magnum and .350 Remington Magnum in the 600 Magnum variant. The versatility in chambering helped make the Model 600 suitable for a wide range of game, from small varmints to larger predators and big game animals. Though the Model 600 had a relatively short production span, it remains a sought-after firearm among collectors and enthusiasts, admired for its innovative design and functionality. Its influence can be seen in the later models that followed, which continued to build on the legacy of the Model 600’s design and versatility in the field.
