Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Browning Superposed is widely regarded as one of the last and most innovative shotguns designed by John Moses Browning. Though Browning passed away in 1926, his son Val A. Browning oversaw the completion of the design, which was introduced in 1931. This over-under shotgun featured several groundbreaking innovations for its time, including a single-selective trigger and a robust boxlock action that improved both durability and reliability. Manufactured in Liège, Belgium by Fabrique Nationale, the Superposed was offered in multiple gauges—12, 20, 28, and .410 bore—and in various grades, ranging from the standard Lightning model to the highly engraved Diana and Midas models. Its design addressed common issues in earlier over-under shotguns, such as barrel alignment and hinge strength, making it highly precise and dependable. Production continued, with interruptions during World War II, until 1976, leaving a lasting legacy as a finely crafted shotgun that influenced future designs and remains highly regarded by collectors and shooters today.
