Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Agent revolver, introduced in 1955 and produced until 1972, represents a significant evolution in concealed carry firearms, primarily designed for undercover use. It features a distinctive short grip frame, making it exceptionally concealable while still providing adequate handling for its .38 Special caliber. Originally available in either a polished blue or nickel finish, the Agent showcased a unique construction of blued steel parts combined with a blue-black anodized aluminum frame and cylinder crane, emphasizing both durability and weight savings. In 1982, the finish transitioned to an unpolished flat matte black, enhancing its discreet appearance for covert applications. With a compact 2-inch barrel, the Agent was designed to be easily carried, fitting snugly against the body without sacrificing the functionality expected of a service revolver. The grips were crafted from checkered walnut, designed to slightly overlap the bottom of the short grip frame, ensuring a secure hold, or alternatively offered in a smooth wood finish for those preferring a classic aesthetic. The First Issue model featured the same thin barrel and exposed ejector rod seen on the Cobra and Detective Special of the time, reinforcing its lineage within Colt's distinguished revolver lineup. In a notable production shift in 1966, Colt standardized all "D" frames to incorporate the same short grip frame as the Agent, streamlining manufacturing processes. As a result, after this change, the Agent effectively became identical to the Cobra, distinguished only by its barrel stamp and the shorter wood grip. This adaptability and focus on concealment have cemented the Colt Agent's reputation as a reliable choice for those seeking a compact revolver that balances practicality with Colt’s signature craftsmanship.
