Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
In the early 1950s, Colt responded to the growing demand for double-action revolvers with adjustable sights by introducing two new models: the Colt Trooper and the 357 Model. The Trooper was designed to be an affordable option for law enforcement and civilian use, featuring a ramped front sight and built on Colt's established medium "E" frame, which had been in production since 1908. This model offered the practicality of adjustable sights while maintaining the robust design of the earlier Officer's Model Match. Available in .38 Special, the Trooper also came in a .22LR version, serving as a training counterpart to the .38 Special model. The Trooper quickly gained popularity among its target market, while the 357 Model, intended for those seeking the more powerful .357 Magnum cartridge, struggled to find its footing. This was largely due to the introduction of the Colt Python in 1955, a super-premium revolver that captured the attention of those seeking higher quality and performance in a .357 Magnum revolver. As a result, Colt eventually discontinued the 357 Model in 1961, simplifying their lineup by offering the Trooper in both .38 Special and .357 Magnum. This move allowed the Trooper to continue its success as a reliable and versatile revolver for a wide range of shooters.
