After retiring from military service, the 2A1 found a new life in the civilian market through conversions into “Jungle Carbine” style rifles, known as the No. 7 Jungle Carbines. Companies such as Gibbs Rifle Company and Navy Arms in the United States shortened the barrel, modified the stock, and added flash hiders to mimic the appearance of the British No. 5 Jungle Carbine. These adaptations appealed to collectors and enthusiasts seeking a compact, historically inspired rifle. The original Jungle Carbine concept began with the Lee-Enfield No. 5 Mk I during World War II, developed for jungle warfare where mobility and maneuverability were essential.
