Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Uberti 1851 Navy revolver is a faithful reproduction of what is arguably the most iconic cap-and-ball six-shooter of the 19th century—a sidearm so influential it could be called the “Percussion Peacemaker.” Introduced by Colt in 1850, the .36 caliber 1851 Navy quickly became the preferred handgun of adventurers, lawmen, and soldiers across the American frontier. From the gold fields of California to the border conflicts of “Bleeding Kansas,” its reputation for balance, reliability, and practical accuracy made it a trusted companion. Favored by cavalrymen on both sides of the Civil War, the Navy was also famously carried by frontier legends like John Wesley Hardin, Wild Bill Hickok, the James-Younger Gang, and Pawnee scouts. With nearly 250,000 produced before production ceased in 1873, few firearms did more to shape the mythos of the Old West. Uberti’s reproduction captures the spirit and historical detail of the original, featuring a 7.5-inch octagonal barrel, open-top frame, and the iconic roll-engraved naval battle scene on the unfluted cylinder.

Available with either a steel or brass trigger guard and grip frame, it offers configurations that reflect both military and civilian use. Uberti also offers these revolvers in both a historically correct .36 caliber and a more powerful .44 caliber variant, catering to historical purists and black powder enthusiasts alike. The Uberti 1851 Navy is not only a smooth-handling black powder revolver but also a striking tribute to one of the most legendary handguns in American history—continuing to captivate collectors, reenactors, and shooting enthusiasts alike.
