Item Description

Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this Gorgeous semi-automatic rimfire rifle for a penny-start auction; this is the Weatherby Mark XXII!

The Weatherby Mark XXII is a finely crafted rimfire rifle with a legacy rooted in precision and quality manufacturing. Originally produced by Beretta in Italy from 1964 to 1971, these early models featured no serial number prefix and later gained rosewood accents on the forend and grip cap starting in 1967. Production also continued in Japan under KTG from 1967 to 1971, identified by a "J" serial number prefix. Both Beretta and KTG-manufactured rifles are notable for including a highly sought-after trigger pull adjustment screw in front of the trigger guard. Renowned for their exceptional accuracy, especially in single-shot mode, these rifles have seen growing appreciation among target shooters and collectors, contributing to their rising demand and value in recent years.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Weatherby Mark XXII Semi-Automatic Rifle is a premium rimfire firearm that reflects Weatherby’s commitment to craftsmanship and performance. Initially introduced in the 1960s, the Mark XXII was designed as a high-end .22 LR semi-automatic rifle aimed at shooters who wanted centerfire-level quality in a rimfire package. Early versions were manufactured by Beretta in Italy, distinguished by fine walnut stocks, deeply blued metal finishes, and intricate checkering. These rifles offered a traditional European aesthetic paired with superb build quality. In 1967, Beretta began enhancing the design by adding rosewood fore-end tips and grip caps, giving the rifle a more luxurious appearance. Later production was moved to Japan under the supervision of KTG, with these rifles bearing a “J” serial prefix. Notably, both Italian and Japanese versions featured an uncommon and highly desirable trigger-pull adjustment screw located in front of the trigger guard, a feature appreciated by competitive and precision shooters alike.

Functionally, the Mark XXII stands out for its reliability and accuracy. It utilizes a simple blowback action, fed from a detachable 10-round box magazine, allowing for quick reloading and consistent performance. Its semi-automatic design makes it ideal for target shooting, small game hunting, and plinking. The receiver was grooved for scope mounting, further enhancing its appeal to precision shooters. Despite its refined construction and premium materials, the Mark XXII remained surprisingly practical and versatile in the field. The rifle’s reputation for tight tolerances and clean trigger break has led to renewed interest among collectors and marksmen, especially as quality rimfire rifles from this era become increasingly scarce. As a result, well-preserved examples of the Mark XXII—particularly those made by Beretta or KTG—have seen growing demand and rising values in the vintage firearms market.
