Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Remington Model 660 Magnum, produced between 1968 and 1971, is a compact and robust bolt-action rifle chambered in the powerful .350 Remington Magnum. Built as a successor to the earlier Model 600, the 660 Magnum retained the same rugged design but featured several refinements, including a 20-inch barrel, an increase in barrel length by 1.5 inches from its predecessor, and the elimination of the ventilated rib. These changes were aimed at improving accuracy and durability, making the 660 Magnum a versatile choice for hunters seeking a lightweight, fast-handling rifle capable of delivering substantial power. The 660 Magnum is equipped with a bead blade front sight and a folding adjustable rear sight, providing flexibility in various hunting or shooting environments.

The rifle’s checkered laminate stock, featuring an ebony foretip, enhances both the aesthetic and functional aspects of the design, providing a firm grip and resistance to weather conditions. The laminate construction offers increased strength, making the rifle durable in tough conditions while also reducing the rifle’s overall weight for easier handling. The Model 660 Magnum features a recoil pad and quick-detachable sling swivels, ensuring comfort and convenience for prolonged carrying during hunting expeditions. Chambered in the .350 Remington Magnum, the rifle offers a potent combination of power and portability, though the cartridge ultimately failed to achieve widespread commercial success. Despite its relatively short production run, the Remington 660 Magnum remains an interesting piece of firearm history due to its unique caliber and the rifle’s practical design.
