The Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) was initially introduced in the 1960s with four chambering options: 30-’06 Sprg., .270 Win., .308 Win., and .243 Win. The long-action models weighed 7 lbs and 6 oz, came with iron sights and were drilled and tapped for scope mounts. The rifle features a cross-bolt safety located on the rear of the trigger guard, and the magazine release is located just ahead of the trigger guard, which drops the hinged floorplate magazine. The BAR has been manufactured in Belgium since its inception, and later assembly work was moved to the Viana, Portugal factory in the early 1970s. The initial models offered were Grade I, which had subdued appointments, and the fancier Grade II, which came with engraved receivers and more luxurious wood.
