This Frontier Scout was produced as part of the Lawman Series. This particular model is known as the Wild Bill Hickok Scout and was manufactured in a limited production run of 3,000 units in 1967. Each of these firearms was assigned a unique serial number, with the range starting from 1WB and going up to 3000WB.
The Wild Bill Hickok Scout we have in our possession bears the serial number 360WB. It is a highly sought-after model among collectors due to its rarity and historical significance. Wild Bill Hickok was a folk hero of the American Old West known for his life on the frontier as a soldier, scout, lawman, cattle rustler, gunslinger, gambler, showman, and actor, and for his involvement in many famous gunfights. He earned a great deal of notoriety in his own time, much of it bolstered by the many outlandish and often fabricated tales he told about himself. Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
James Butler Hickok, also known as "Wild Bill" Hickok, was a legendary figure of the American Old West. He lived a storied life as a soldier, scout, lawman, cattle rustler, gunslinger, gambler, showman, and actor, and was involved in many famous gunfights. Although he gained notoriety during his lifetime, much of his fame was due to the many outlandish and often fabricated tales he told about himself. Although some of the accounts of his exploits were fictitious, they remain the foundation of his reputation.
The Colt Single Action Army (the SAA, Model P, Peacemaker, or M1873) is a single-action revolver handgun. It was designed for the U.S. government service revolver trials of 1872 by Colt's Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company (today known as Colt's Manufacturing Company). The Colt SAA has been offered in over 30 calibers and various barrel lengths. Its overall appearance has remained consistent since 1873. Colt has canceled its production twice but brought it back due to popular demand. The revolver was dubbed the "Peacemaker" and is a famous piece of Americana and the American Wild West era due to its popularity with ranchers, lawmen, and outlaws alike. Today, they are mainly bought as memorabilia by collectors and re-enactors. Its design has influenced the production of numerous other models from other companies. The SAA, at one time or another, was offered in dozens of calibers from .22 rimfire to .476 Eley, though the .45 Colt has always been the most common. A scaled-down .22 rimfire version called the Scout or Frontier Scout was available in the late 20th century.
Contents:
The owner states that this example remains New Old Stock and we see no evidence to indicate otherwise. Additionally, it will ship with the original black leatherette presentation case fitted to receive the "Wild Bill" Hickok model acting right. A bed of ice blue velvet and a silver satin inside top lining with black illustration make this blue and nickel gun a beautiful combination. A silver-fitted illustration of Wild Bill on the outside top cover compliments the nickel hardware of the case. Also included is a booklet and the paperwork pictured above.
