Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The PP (Polizeipistole), introduced by Carl Walther in 1929, is the full-size duty model that launched the Walther PP family. Designed primarily for police and administrative use rather than pocket carry, the PP employs a simple blowback action with a fixed barrel and a double-action/single-action (DA/SA) trigger. It introduced several notable safety features for its time, including a manually operated slide-mounted safety lever that also isolates the firing mechanism (and on some later or variant models serves as a decocking device), as well as an internal hammer block. The PP was produced in multiple calibers—most commonly 7.65×17mm Browning (.32 ACP), but also in 9mm Kurz (.380 ACP), 6.35mm (.25 ACP), and .22 LR. Robust, well-balanced, and ergonomically refined for its era, the PP found wide acceptance among European police services and provided the design foundation for the later, more compact PPK and other derivatives that would refine.
