Markings: Standard / The right side of the barrel is marked “GOLDEN SPIKE COMMEMORATIVE”. The upper tang is marked “OCEANS UNITED BY RAIL”. The left side of the receiver is marked with a spike between “1869” & “1969”. The right side of the receiver has decorative border engraving. The right side of the buttstock has an inlay showing two trains facing each other and is marked “·THE CENTRAL PACIFIC AND UNION PACIFIC RAILROADS LINKING THE NATIONS·PROMONTORY SUMMIT, UTAH” around the circumference and ““…THE PACIFIC RAILWAY IS COMPLETED” / MAY 10, 1869” on the front face.

They have seen extensive use across North America for target shooting, competition shooting, as well as medium to large game hunting. In years of the Transcontinental Railroad, or the "Fire Road", as fierce Sioux warriors called it. A 3,000-mile ladder of wood and iron linking the world's two great oceans...uniting a nation. Carves form rock by men as tough as the wind-blasted buttes they cut through. Men with picks and sledges in one hand, Winchesters in the other...brawlers and army veterans became Indian fighters. Men who knew survival was linked to wood and metal: a great railroad protected by a great rifle. Every spike of the first great Transcontinental railway held history together. The West was one with that last "Golden Spike" - driven into a railbed high in the Utah mountain range 100 years ago. "The Golden Spike". As rich in historical significance as any event in America's colorful past.
This rifle is a Golden Spike Commemorative produced in 1969 to signify the 100 years (1869-1969) that had passed since the uniting of the east coast to the west coast with the golden spike that was driven into the train tracks as the last component to the transcontinental railroad. Winchester's own "Golden Spike" Commemorative Carbine symbolizes that monumental work of men and iron.
