**This example is out of Mr. Don Wilkerson's Personal Collection!!!**

This Colt Single Action Army (Second Generation) revolver holds significant collector value not only due to its rare configuration but also because it is featured in Don Wilkerson’s landmark reference, The Post-War Colt Single-Action Revolver. On page 48 of the book, this exact firearm—identified by its serial number 53042SA—is both photographed and cataloged, providing verifiable provenance and historical importance that sets it apart from most surviving examples. Chambered in .357 Magnum and finished in factory nickel, this revolver belongs to the rarest production subset within the Second Generation SAA line.

Production totals for the .357 Magnum Single Action Army revolvers are compiled from Colt’s annual production reports; however, these figures should be considered approximate, as many special-order revolvers may not have been recorded in official documentation. According to noted Colt historian Don Wilkerson, production of the .357 Magnum, 7 1/2" barrel nickel-finished revolvers was limited to approximately 367 units. His in-depth analysis further reveals that only about 9% of all Second Generation .357 Magnum SAAs were manufactured with a nickel finish—equating to roughly one nickel example for every 46 revolvers produced in this caliber, making them the least common variant. Furthermore, statistics show that approximately one out of every 4.5 Second Generation Single Action Army revolvers with a 7 1/2" barrel was chambered in .357 Magnum, underscoring its relative scarcity in this configuration. The combination of rare caliber and finish, well-preserved condition, and documented provenance makes this particular Colt Single Action Army an exceptional and highly sought-after piece for advanced collectors—both as a sound investment and a historically significant firearm.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Single Action Army (also known as the Model P, Peacemaker, M1873, Single Action Army, SAA, ) is a single-action revolver with a revolving cylinder holding six metallic cartridges. It was designed for the U.S. government service revolver trials of 1873 by Colt's Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company, today Colt’s Manufacturing Company, and adopted as the standard military service revolver until 1892. It is perhaps the most copied, fraudulently modified to replicate an original Colt SAA, than any other revolver made. At the beginning of World War II, Colt ceased production of the Single Action Army revolver to devote more time to filling orders for the war. When the war ended, no plans were made to revive the Single Action Army revolver as the design was seen as obsolete. However, the advent of television and Western-themed movies created customer demand for the revolver, so Colt resumed manufacture in 1956 with the Second Generation line of Single Action Army revolvers. These Second Generation Colt Single Action Army revolvers were produced from 1956 to 1974 and carried serial numbers in the range of 0001SA to 73,205SA.
