Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Remington Model 591M is a bolt-action, detachable-magazine sporting rifle chambered for the 5mm Remington Rimfire Magnum, a bottlenecked rimfire cartridge introduced in 1969. Remington produced approximately 27,000 Model 591-series rifles from 1970 to 1974. The Model 591M was designed to take advantage of the 5mm Remington Rimfire Magnum's unusually high velocity for a rimfire cartridge, with the original 38-grain load rated at about 2,100 feet per second. Although the cartridge offered excellent performance, it never achieved broad commercial success, leading Remington to discontinue the 591M in 1974 and the ammunition in 1982. Decades later, the 5mm Remington Rimfire Magnum was revived by Aguila, making these rifles once again easily manageable to shoot. Today, the Model 591M is considered relatively uncommon and is sought after by collectors and enthusiasts interested in its unique chambering and distinctive place in rimfire history.
