Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Browning T-Bolt was first introduced in 1965 and remained in production till 1974. It was designed to be chambered in .22 Long Rifle, had a 24-inch barrel, a peep rear sight, and a ramped front sight. The rifle weighed 6 pounds and had a five-shot magazine. Additionally, it was also available in left-hand models. The T-Bolt rifle is named after the unique shape of its locking lug, which forms the top of the letter "T" and sits perpendicular to the bolt body. The bolt handle is attached to the bottom of the T, and pulling on it moves the locking lug sideways in the receiver. This action clears the receiver wall and allows the bolt assembly to move backward. The T-Bolt operates faster than a traditional bolt because the shooter only needs to tug it rearward, rather than lifting it up and then pulling back.
The T-Bolt is known for its unique cock-on-close action, which is flawlessly executed. Unlike most bolt-action rifles, which are based on the Peter Paul Mauser design, the T-Bolt uses a different approach. When lifting the bolt handle after firing, most rifles move the cocking piece up the cocking ramp while also moving the bolt body slightly to the rear. This is known as primary extraction and helps unstick cases from the chamber, making it easier to extract fired cases. However, with the T-Bolt, the firing pin only moves about one-third of the way necessary to cock the rifle when the bolt is pulled to open the chamber. Only in the last half-inch of forward movement does the firing pin spring compress fully to cock the action. This unique approach gives the T-Bolt its distinctive handling characteristics.
The .22 Long Rifle cartridge is an excellent choice for target practice, as well as hunting small game and varmints. If you're looking for a good-looking rifle for small game hunting and have an appreciation for fine guns, this might be the perfect choice for you.
Return Policy:
