Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this ULTRA SCARCE double-action revolver for a penny-start auction; this is the Colt Border Patrol Second Issue!

The Colt Second Issue Border Patrol revolver, produced from 1970 to 1975, was a practical, duty-ready firearm built on the Colt Trooper Mark III platform and chambered in .357 Magnum. Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Second Issue Border Patrol revolver, produced from 1970 to 1975, was a practical and purpose-built law enforcement sidearm that reflected Colt’s evolving revolver design in the early 1970s. Based on the "J" frame Colt Trooper Mark III, the Second Issue Border Patrol retained the same robust internal mechanism and frame but featured a unique "Border Patrol" barrel marking and a slightly less polished finish. Chambered in the powerful .357 Magnum and equipped with a 4-inch barrel, it was well-suited for duty use, offering both stopping power and manageable size. Unlike the original 1952 version—which was a modified Colt Official Police revolver issued exclusively to U.S. Border Patrol agents—the Second Issue was made available commercially, allowing civilian shooters and collectors to own a version of a law enforcement-grade revolver.

Production numbers for the Second Issue Border Patrol were relatively low, making it a desirable piece for collectors today. A total of 5,356 were manufactured in a standard blue finish, while only 1,152 were produced in a striking bright nickel finish. Models actually issued to the U.S. Border Patrol can be distinguished by "USBP" markings and issue numbers stamped on the right side of the frame above the trigger, adding both authenticity and historical value. Mechanically identical across all examples, the Second Issue saw no variation aside from its finish, emphasizing its straightforward and utilitarian purpose. As a result, the Colt Second Issue Border Patrol stands as a significant firearm in Colt’s law enforcement legacy—representing a transitional period in revolver manufacturing and a direct link to federal agency sidearms of the era.
