The Auto-5, often abbreviated as A5, holds a monumental place in firearms history as the first successful semi-automatic shotgun, designed by the legendary John Browning. Utilizing a long-recoil operation system, the A5 was capable of cycling five shots (four in the magazine and one in the chamber) reliably—revolutionizing shotgun design. Though originally rejected by Winchester and nearly stalled by the untimely death of Remington’s president, Browning's design was ultimately embraced by Fabrique Nationale (FN) of Belgium and later licensed to both Remington and Savage.
