Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Marlin 1895 is a powerful and rugged lever-action rifle designed to handle big-bore cartridges, making it a favorite among hunters pursuing large and dangerous game. The original Model 1895 was first introduced in late 1895, with the earliest serial-numbered rifle dated November 27 of that year. Initially built on a beefed-up version of the Model 1893 action, it was chambered in large black powder cartridges like .38–56, .40–65, .40–82, .45–70, and .45–90, serving hunters and outdoorsmen well into the early 20th century before production ceased in 1917. The model was revived in 1972 as the “New Model 1895,” redesigned around the modern Marlin 336 action and primarily chambered in .45-70 Government. Featuring a solid-top receiver with side ejection and a robust lever mechanism, the 1895 is known for its durability, reliability, and ability to deliver hard-hitting performance in dense brush and tough hunting conditions.

It has since evolved into a wide array of configurations, including traditional wood-stocked rifles, stainless steel guide guns, and modern tactical variants with big-loop levers and optics rails. Whether used for close-range bear country defense or classic big-game hunting, the Marlin 1895 remains a legendary name in American lever-action history.
