The Colt Junior was introduced in 1957 as a response to the competitive landscape of post-World War II pocket pistols. Following the success of the earlier Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket Hammerless, Colt aimed to re-enter the market with a new, updated version. The Junior, which lacked the grip safety of its predecessor, was produced by the Spanish company Astra Unceta y Cia due to manufacturing cost concerns, and it became a staple of Colt's small firearm offerings. The Junior was available in both .25 ACP and .22 Short calibers, making it versatile for different preferences. With a weight of just 13oz and an overall length of 4.4 inches, it was highly concealable and easy to carry. Production continued from 1958 until 1968 when the Gun Control Act halted the importation of non-sporting firearms, but Colt later resumed production through an arrangement with Firearms Import & Export (FIE) between 1970 and 1972. Despite its relatively short production life under Colt’s banner, the Junior left a lasting legacy, with FIE continuing to produce similar models into the 1980s under the name “The Best.”
