Item Description

Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this double-action revolver today for a penny-start auction; this is the Smith & Wesson 64-1!

This example is an Oklahoma Highway Patrol Commemorative, with only 750 being manufactured in 1973 with a heavy 4" barrel! Additionally, according to the owner, this example is unfired!

The Smith & Wesson Model 64 was produced only in .38 Special; S&W did not offer it in .357 Magnum, with one noted exception—approximately 750 special "Model 64-1" revolvers chambered in .357 Magnum were made for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. These were essentially early prototypes or precursors to the officially released Model 65, which became the standard .357 Magnum variant in stainless steel.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Model 64-1, manufactured in 1973, is a robust double-action revolver chambered in .357 Magnum. Built with a 4-inch heavy barrel, it delivers excellent balance and durability while providing accuracy and manageable recoil. Its stainless steel construction ensures resistance to corrosion and wear, making it a practical and long-lasting service sidearm. Equipped with a serrated blade front sight and square notch rear sight, the revolver offers reliable sight alignment, while the smooth wooden grips with inlaid S&W medallions add both comfort and a touch of refinement.

What makes this example particularly significant is its status as an Oklahoma Highway Patrol Commemorative model. One of only 750 produced in 1973, it honors the heritage and service of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol while also standing as a limited-edition collectible. The combination of its heavy 4-inch barrel, commemorative markings, and limited production makes it desirable not only for its practical performance but also for its historical and collectible value among law enforcement and firearms enthusiasts.
