Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this limited edition lever-action rifle today for a penny-start auction, this is the Winchester 94 “Texas Ranger Commemorative”!
In 1973, one of the nation's most renowned law enforcement services, the Texas Rangers, celebrated its 150th anniversary. Winchester honored this outstanding group of Texans by issuing a limited edition of 5,000 Texas Ranger Commemorative Model 94 Rifles, with the first 150 of the series being the presentation variation with the fancy stock, shorter barrel, and serial numbers ranging from RA1 - RA150. However, the other rifles were denoted by the serial number range RA151- RA5000, bringing the overall total to 5000! This particular example bears the serial #RA2864, which makes it the 2,864 out of the 5,000 produced!
(According to the included letter sent by the owner, I purchased Texas Ranger “Henry Manning's” entire collection of guns, including his duty rifle, pistols, and badges. I also received his Winchester 94 Texas Ranger Commemorative Rifle!)

The Winchester Model 1894 rifle, also known as the Winchester 94 or Model 94, is a lever-action repeating rifle that was designed by John Browning in 1894. It originally used two metallic black powder cartridges, the .32-40 Winchester and .38-55 Winchester, but in 1895, it became the first rifle to use the smokeless powder round, the .30 WCF (Winchester Center Fire), which later became known as the .30-30. The rifle was produced by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company until 1980 and later by U.S. Repeating Arms under the Winchester brand until 2006, when they ceased manufacturing rifles. Reproductions of the rifle are now being made by the Miroku company of Japan and imported into the United States by the Browning Arms company of Morgan, Utah. The Model 1894 is often referred to as the "ultimate lever-action design" by firearms historians and was the first commercial sporting rifle to sell over 7,000,000 units.

In 1823, the Texas Rangers were unofficially created by Stephen F Austin, and formally became a division meant to protect the Texas border in 1835. Throughout history, they were involved in a number of well known events, such as stopping the assassination of President William Taft and the apprehension of criminals such as John Wesley Hardin and Bonnie and Clyde. Needless to say, they were a tough group!
