Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Remington’s development of the Nylon series began in the late 1950s, when the company sought a .22 rimfire semi-automatic rifle that could be produced with minimal machining and hand-fitting. The resulting Nylon 66 was revolutionary, using a two-piece Zytel stock that also served as the rifle’s receiver—an unconventional approach that eliminated the traditional metal receiver and dramatically reduced production costs. Introduced in 1959 and named after DuPont’s designation for the synthetic material, the Nylon 66 became the first mass-produced rifle to use a non-wood stock. Its lightweight construction, durability, and reliability quickly earned it a following, prompting Remington to expand the Nylon lineup with additional variants. One of those later variants was the Mohawk 10-C, introduced in 1972 as an updated version of the Nylon 77. The redesign centered on replacing the original 5-round magazine with a 10-round detachable clip, offering greater capacity while retaining the lightweight, maintenance-friendly synthetic construction. Produced for only six years, with roughly 128,000 manufactured, the Mohawk 10-C represents a limited-production model that today appeals strongly to Nylon collectors. Featuring a blued 19 5/8" barrel, adjustable open sights, and the distinctive checkered Mohawk Brown Zytel stock with inset white diamond, it remains a handy, dependable plinker—ideal for casual shooting or for carrying afield when a full-size varmint rifle would be burdensome.
