Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Model 15 is a double-/single-action revolver chambered for .38 S&W Special, built on the square-butt K-frame target platform and continuing the lineage of the postwar K-38 Combat Masterpiece. It features a six-shot fluted cylinder with a nominal length of 1.56 inches, originally paired with a 4-inch pinned barrel, later joined by a 2-inch pinned barrel (with 5-inch examples being rare). In 1986, it expanded to include 6- and 8 3/8-inch options; all barrel lengths carried a narrow serrated rib. Finishes were offered in blue or nickel, and sighting equipment consisted of a 1/8-inch Baughman Quick Draw front sight on a plain ramp base, combined with a micrometer-click adjustable rear sight. Grips were typically walnut Magna-style with S&W medallions and the early diamond escutcheon; however, some early postwar examples have been documented with plastic medallions. Trigger and hammer configurations varied by barrel length: the .312-inch smooth combat trigger was standard on 2- and 4-inch models (with an optional adjustable stop), while the 6- and 8 3/8-inch versions commonly carried a .265-inch serrated service trigger, and a .400-inch target trigger on 4-inch guns.

Hammer options included the .375-inch semi-target and the .500-inch target hammer. The 2-inch variants incorporated subtle frame and rear-sight differences not shared with the longer-barreled guns, and a single-action-only configuration was available by special order. Early postwar production featured six-groove backstrap and forestrap serrations, which were later replaced with ten-groove. Produced under the original K-prefix serial range, the Model 15 remained in production from 1949 to 1999, establishing itself as one of Smith & Wesson’s most iconic K-frame service and target revolvers.
