Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Winchester Model 1894 rifle, also known as the Winchester 94 or Model 94, is a lever-action repeating rifle that was designed by John Browning in 1894. It originally used two metallic black powder cartridges, the .32-40 Winchester and .38-55 Winchester, but in 1895, it became the first rifle to use the smokeless powder round, the .30 WCF (Winchester Center Fire), which later became known as the .30-30. The rifle was produced by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company until 1980 and later by U.S. Repeating Arms under the Winchester brand until 2006, when they ceased manufacturing rifles. Reproductions of the rifle are now being made by the Miroku company of Japan and imported into the United States by the Browning Arms company of Morgan, Utah. The Model 1894 is often referred to as the "ultimate lever-action design" by firearms historians and was the first commercial sporting rifle to sell over 7,000,000 units.
In 1974, a limited Canadian-only edition of 8,600 units was produced, serialized from AC1-AC10200. Not all units were shipped as per the Blue Book listing. This commemorative model features a gold-plated engraved receiver, gold-plated barrel bands, and magazine cap, a polished blue 20" barrel and magazine tube, and a satin-finished walnut stock with a gold medallion insert and a gold-plated buttplate.
