Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Agent was essentially a compact version of the Cobra, built on a shortened grip frame and designed to be a highly concealable undercover revolver. Chambered in .38 Special, it featured a 2-inch barrel and was originally offered in blue or nickel finishes, with blue models combining blue steel parts and a blue-black anodized aluminum frame and crane; in 1982, the finish shifted to a flat matte black. Grips were checkered walnut that slightly overlapped the short frame or smooth wood panels. The First Issue, produced from 1955 to 1972, had the same slim barrel and exposed ejector rod as the Cobra and Detective Special, and after Colt standardized all “D” frames to the short grip design in 1966, the Agent became mechanically identical to the Cobra, differing mainly by its barrel marking and shorter grips. The Second Issue, produced from 1973 to 1991, adopted the heavier, shrouded-ejector-rod barrel introduced in 1972 while retaining the short grip frame. Some of the Agents were shipped with Colt factory-installed hammer shrouds.
