The Walther PP (Polizeipistole, or police pistol) series represents a pioneering line of blowback-operated semi-automatic pistols developed by Carl Walther GmbH Sportwaffen, a renowned German arms manufacturer. Featuring an exposed hammer and a traditional double-action trigger mechanism, these pistols are distinguished by their single-column magazine and a fixed barrel that doubles as the guide rod for the recoil spring. The series encompasses models such as the Walther PP, PPK, PPK/S, and PPK/E, each renowned for their compactness and reliability. Introduced in 1929, the original Walther PP was designed with innovative safety features, including an automatic hammer block, a combined safety/decocker lever, and a loaded chamber indicator, setting a standard for subsequent semi-automatic designs. The PPK variant, still in production today, gained widespread popularity among European police forces and civilians for its concealability and dependability. During World War II, both the PP and PPK were issued to German military officers and law enforcement personnel, cementing their place in firearms history as icons of compact semi-automatic pistol design.
