Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Ruger Blackhawk is a single-action revolver manufactured by Sturm, Ruger & Co. It has six shots and is available in different finishes, calibers, and barrel lengths. For decades, the Blackhawk has been popular among firearm enthusiasts and collectors worldwide, leaving its mark in the firearm collecting industry. In the past, early models of the Blackhawk operated the same way as the Colt, where the hammer was half-cocked to load and unload. It wasn't safe to carry with all six chambers loaded, since the hammer rested on the sixth chamber. To prevent accidents from the hammer jarring against a round loaded in the sixth chamber, Ruger launched the New Model Blackhawk in 1973.

To prevent accidents from the hammer jarring against a round loaded in the sixth chamber, Ruger launched the New Model Blackhawk in 1973.
The New Model Blackhawk eliminated the need for the hammer to be half-cocked for loading and unloading. It also featured a transfer bar mechanism that prevented the cartridge under the hammer from being fired without the trigger being pulled. This made the New Blackhawk safer and it reduced firearms accidents and legal liability. Ruger began offering a free transfer bar conversion program to earlier variants of the Blackhawk to ensure their safety.
